Pisharody \u2013 A Literary and Cinematic Luminary<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>N. N. Pisharody<\/strong> (1926\u20132008) was a legendary director and prolific writer in the Malayalam film and literary world. He was born in 1926 into the &#8216;Kallil&#8217; Pisharam family in Methala, near Perumbavoor, Kerala, to parents Kallil Kunchi Pisharasiar and Narayana Pisharody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After completing his schooling in Paravoor, he graduated with a degree in Economics from Serampore, Bengal. A passionate reader from an early age, Pisharody developed a deep appreciation for literature. His literary journey began in high school when his short story <em>\u201cKurudante Makal\u201d<\/em> (<em>The Blind Man\u2019s Daughter<\/em>) was published in the <strong>Prasanna Keralam<\/strong> weekly from Kottayam. From then on, his stories frequently appeared in various Malayalam weeklies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Encouraged by the late <strong>K. Balakrishnan<\/strong>, editor of <em>Kaumudi<\/em>, Pisharody ventured into novel writing. His debut novel, <em>Kure Swapnangal Kure Vanambadigal<\/em> (<em>Many Dreams, Many Nightingales<\/em>), was serialized in <em>Kaumudi Weekly<\/em>. Over the years, his works were featured in notable publications such as <em>Janayugam<\/em>, <em>Navayugam<\/em>, <em>Keralashabdam<\/em>, <em>Chithrapournnami<\/em>, <em>Express Weekly<\/em>, and <em>Mathrubhoomi Weekly<\/em>. He authored 17 novels, eight of which were published as standalone books. One of his novels, <em>Vellam<\/em> (<em>Water<\/em>), inspired a Malayalam film of the same name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pisharody later transitioned to the film industry, where he spent over 30 years as a storyteller in a new medium. He began his film career as an assistant director for Tamil and Telugu movies at Newton Studios. He soon established himself as a director, producer, and scriptwriter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His directorial debut, <em>Ninamaninja Kalpadukal<\/em> (<em>Blood-stained Footprints<\/em>), which portrayed the emotional aftermath of the Indo-China war, won four major awards, including the President\u2019s Silver Medal for Best Regional Film and the award for Best Director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In total, he directed six films, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Muthu<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Raging<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Mulkkireedam<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Ammu<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Ninamaninja Kalppadukal<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also produced two films (<em>Mulkkireedam<\/em> and <em>Vellam<\/em>) and wrote the screenplay for numerous productions. For Doordarshan, he directed four episodes of <em>Aithihyamala<\/em> and a telefilm titled <em>Kudajadri<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his later years, Pisharody returned to writing. His story <em>Aandal Puram Pogum Vazhi<\/em> (<em>Enroute to Aandal Puram<\/em>) was published in <em>Mathrubhoomi Weekly<\/em> and later released as a book by Shree Books, Aluva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pisharody was also active in the radio and theatre space. He wrote around 40 radio plays for <strong>Akashavani Thrissur<\/strong>, and crafted screenplays for dramatic productions such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Hiranya Garbham<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Sarppa Sathram<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Ivideyo Naalathe Sooryodayam<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Vishathan Kaavilinnarattu<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These works were performed by various art groups across Kerala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>N. N. Pisharody passed away on August 30, 2008, at the age of 82.<\/strong> His legacy continues through his enduring contributions to Malayalam literature and cinema.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>N.
