Rama Pisharody \u2013 A Pillar of Kathakali Tradition<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Long before Kathakali attained its internationally acclaimed status, the art form was carefully nurtured and popularized by a humble yet immensely talented Kathakali singer \u2014 <strong>Kalluvazhi Thrivikramapurath Rama Pisharody<\/strong>, affectionately known as <strong>Kunju Pisharody<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the renowned Ayurvedacharya <strong>P.S. Varier<\/strong> founded the <strong>P.S.V. Natyasangham<\/strong> with the aim of promoting Kathakali, the responsibility of managing and guiding the institution was entrusted to Rama Pisharody. Under his stewardship, a vibrant and youthful Kathakali troupe came into being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A true polymath in the world of Kathakali, Rama Pisharody mastered several aspects of the art beyond singing \u2014 including <strong>Chenda<\/strong>, <strong>Maddalam<\/strong>, <strong>make-up<\/strong>, and more. He was a mentor and guide to numerous illustrious disciples, including <strong>Kottakkal Krishnankutty Nair<\/strong>, <strong>Kalluvazhi Vasu<\/strong>, <strong>Vasu Nedungadi<\/strong>, and <strong>Kuttan Marar<\/strong>. Many consider him the <strong>&#8220;Guru\u2019s Guru&#8221;<\/strong> \u2014 a foundational figure for generations of artists who followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was trained under <strong>Kalluvazhi Govinda Pisharody<\/strong>, a legendary figure in his own right, alongside fellow disciple <strong>Vazhengada Kunj Nair<\/strong>. For music, he received guidance from <strong>Bhagavathar Kesavan Nair<\/strong> in <strong>Kathakali Sangeetham<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Born in <strong>1892<\/strong> to <strong>Thrivikramapurath Parukutty Pisharassiar<\/strong> and <strong>Kaplingat Manakkal Amrithan Namboodiripad<\/strong>, Rama Pisharody pursued his early education locally before dedicating himself fully to Kathakali under the guidance of his brother, Govinda Pisharody. He later married <strong>Vengasseri Kaavil Pisharath Parukutty Pisharassiar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Described by Kottakkal Krishnankutty Nair \u2014 the former Principal of P.S.V. Natyasangham \u2014 as an &#8220;<strong>encyclopedia of Kathakali<\/strong>,&#8221; Rama Pisharody\u2019s contributions continue to resonate in the Kathakali world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In <strong>1974<\/strong>, at the age of <strong>82<\/strong>, this versatile <strong>Acharya<\/strong> of Kathakali passed away, leaving behind a legacy that has shaped the very fabric of the art form.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kalluvazhi T.P.
