T Balaraman, IAS (Retd)

Shri T. Balaraman, the first person from our community to be selected into the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS), was the son of Late Kattoor Rama Pisharody, former Municipal Commissioner of Thrissur, and Padinjare Thonnangamathu Late Ammini Pisharassiar.

After completing his B.Sc. in Physics, he was selected to the IAS in the 1963 batch. Throughout his distinguished career, he held several key administrative positions across various states, including Maharashtra, and served in different capacities in the Central Secretariat.

He underwent advanced training in Public Administration in the United Kingdom, enhancing his capabilities in governance and policy-making. He also served as the Managing Director of the National Seed Corporation in New Delhi, contributing significantly to the agricultural sector.

Shri T. Balaraman retired as the Principal Secretary to the Government of Maharashtra, concluding a career marked by dedication, integrity, and exemplary public service.

Col. Dr. V P Gopinathan

Col. Dr. V. P. Gopinathan is a renowned Pulmonologist and Chest Specialist, known for his distinguished service in both the Indian Armed Forces and the civilian medical sector. He is the elder son of Late Sukapurath Karunakara Pisharody and Late Vattenat Pisharath Narayanikkutty Pisharasiar.

After passing SSLC with first class, he pursued his higher education at St. Thomas College, Thrissur, and later obtained his MBBS degree from Calicut Medical College. Driven by a commitment to serve, he joined the Indian Army as a Regimental Medical Officer (RMO). Rising through the ranks, he served as Captain, Major, and ultimately retired as a Colonel.

During his military career, he also completed his MD in Pulmonology, and served as a Professor at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), a prestigious institution in military medical education. He retired from the Armed Forces in 1998.

Post-retirement, Dr. Gopinathan continued his medical service as Professor and Head of the Department at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. He also extended his expertise at leading hospitals including Jubilee Mission Hospital, West Fort Hospital, and Mother Hospital, all in Thrissur.

His expertise spans a wide range of pulmonary conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, lung cancer, interstitial and occupational lung diseases, as well as complex lung and pleural infections including tuberculosis, pulmonary hypertension, and cystic fibrosis.

He has been honored as a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP), recognizing his excellence and contribution to the field of chest medicine.

Dr. Gopinathan has also played a significant role in community service. As the President of the Pisharody Samajam, he was instrumental in establishing the organization’s Headquarters building in Thrissur, a milestone achievement during his tenure.

He is married to Shyamala, from Thonnanagamath Pisharam, and they have a daughter, Supriya.

RLV Damodara Pisharody

R.L.V. Damodara Pisharody, a celebrated Kathakali artist from Thrippunithura, is renowned as the favourite disciple of the legendary Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair, who played a pivotal role in popularising Kerala’s classical dance-drama, Kathakali, on global stages.

Born in 1939 to Attingal Manikantthapurathu Pisharath Shivarama Pisharody and Puthrikkovil Pisharath Lakshmikutty Pisharassiar, Damodara Pisharody developed a deep passion for the art form early in life. He received his formal training in Kathakali at the R.L.V. College of Music and Fine Arts, Thrippunithura – a premier institution that continues to shape many artists in the classical arts.

Over the years, he has nurtured and mentored over a hundred disciples, contributing immensely to the preservation and propagation of Kathakali. His dedication and contribution to the art form have earned him several prestigious recognitions.

Veteran Ilathalam Maestro and Percussionist

Pallavur Raghava Pisharody is a renowned rhythm artiste celebrated for his mastery in Ilathalam, a vital percussive instrument in traditional Kerala temple ensembles. Born on 15th November 1948 to Manjaloor Pisharath Narayana Pisharody and Kodumudi Cherat Pisharath Sridevi Pisharasiar, he inherited his passion for rhythm from his father, who was his first guru.

At the age of 19, he began formal training in Chenda under the legendary Pallavur Kunjukutta Marar. He performed his Arangettam in 1969 at the Sri Thrippallavur Temple, marking the beginning of an illustrious musical journey. He later became closely associated with the famed Pallavur Trio, further refining his skills and artistic expression.

A doyen in Ilathalam, Pisharody has been a distinguished presence at many temple festivals across Kerala, especially the iconic Thrissur Pooram, where his rhythmic contributions are revered.

Madhav Ramdasan

Madhav Ramdasan is a renowned Malayalam film director who gained national recognition with his debut feature film Melvilasam (2011). The film earned him the prestigious Gollapudi Srinivas National Award for Best Debut Director and also received the P. Bhaskaran Award for Best Feature Film of the year. Melvilasam further garnered international acclaim by being featured at the 16th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea.

Ramesh Pisharody

Ramesh Pisharody is a well-known Malayalam film actor, director, television anchor, and stage performer, celebrated for his unique flair in mimicry and comedy. With a career spanning over two decades, he has firmly established himself as one of Kerala’s most versatile entertainers.

Born on 1st October 1981 at Newsprint Nagar in Kottayam district, Ramesh is the youngest child of Cherukunnu Thekke Veedu Balakrishna Pisharody and Rema B Pisharody (of Dakshinamoorthi Pisharam, Kuthannoor). He has four elder siblings.

His early education began at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Velloor, where he first showcased his mimicry skills by imitating a dog’s bark in a school drama. To enjoy Saturdays off, he later moved to a Malayalam-medium school from third grade onward, where he continued to actively participate in mimicry competitions.

After winning second prize at a youth festival under Mahatma Gandhi University, Ramesh began receiving invitations for stage performances. In 2000, he joined the Cochin Stallions, a mimicry troupe led by actor Salim Kumar, where he worked for four years. He also completed his graduation in Politics from Dewaswom Board College, Thalayolaparambu during this time. Later, he collaborated with mimicry artist Sajan Palluruthi, and the duo performed extensively on various stages.

Film and Television Career

Ramesh began his film career with a minor role in Nasrani (2007), followed by a more prominent role in Positive (2008). He gained recognition through notable roles in films such as Kappal Muthalaali (2009), Celluloid (2013), Left Right Left (2013), Immanuel, Amar Akbar Anthony, and To Noora with Love (2014), where he played a negative character.

He rose to television fame with the hit comedy show Badai Bungalow on Asianet, co-hosted with actor Mukesh and featuring Dharmajan Bolgatty. The show ran successfully for five years, further enhancing his popularity.

In 2018, Pisharody made his directorial debut with the comedy-drama Panchavarnathatha, starring Jayaram and Kunchacko Boban, which received positive reviews and was a box office success. His second directorial venture, Ganagandharvan, featured superstar Mammootty in the lead role.
