Soumya Satheesh is one of the leading exponents of the traditional art forms of Mohiniyattam and Bharatanatyam. Since 1994, she has been running Bharatha Kalamandiram, a well-established dance school in Ernakulam, where she has introduced a large number of young children to the world of classical dance.
Soumya, along with her disciples, has delivered numerous scintillating and well-articulated stage performances, which have been widely appreciated by audiences and covered by the media. She has also choreographed and performed poetic works by eminent poets such as Changampuzha, Sugathakumari, Vailoppilli, A. R. Rajaraja Varma, S. Rameshan Nair, O. N. V. Kurup, and Akkitham.
She began her dance training at the tender age of five under the guidance of Kalamandalam Sridevi Gopinath. Over the years, she has won several awards and accolades, starting from her school days—securing the First Prize in the 1988 State School Kalolsavam and the coveted title of Kalathilakam at the Calicut University Kalolsavam in 1990.
In addition to her achievements in dance, Soumya has also acted in Malayalam and Tamil films, including Nivedyam, Sulthan, Sundara Pandyan, and Pandyanad. Her dedication to promoting classical dance earned her the Kalasagar Award in 2014 for her contributions to Bharatanatyam.
Soumya is the elder daughter of Late Mannanur Unni—a respected teacher and actor in many radio dramas and films—and Rishinaradamanalam Pisharath Kshamadevi. She is married to Killikkurussimangalam Chakrath Pisharath Satish, and they have two children, Adv. Arjun and Nandakrishnan. Her only brother, Sunu R. Pisharody, served as Vice Chairman of Shoranur Municipality and is the owner of the Pisharody Group of establishments, including restaurants, processed food units, and vehicle & auditorium hire services.
