Commander R Upendra Babu (Retd)
Commander R Upendra Babu, a retired officer of the Indian Navy, was commissioned into the Engineering Branch in 1993. An alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy, he graduated with a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval College of Engineering, INS Shivaji, Lonavla, under the aegis of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. He later completed his M.E in Mechanical/Marine Engineering from the Institute of Armament Technology (IAT), Pune, affiliated with Pune University.
He underwent specialized training to be inducted into the Submarine Arm of the Indian Navy and served in several critical appointments, including Operational, Staff, and Training roles. Notably, he served at the Naval Selection Board in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Born into a distinguished family in Kerala, Commander Upendra Babu spent most of his formative years in Bengaluru, Karnataka. He is an alumnus of Kendriya Vidyalayas Malleswaram, ASC, and Jalahalli, as well as BEL College and MES College of Arts, Commerce and Science.
Following his retirement from active service, he transitioned into the corporate and development sectors, leading Learning & Organizational Development (L&OD) initiatives and corporate management training.
He made his literary debut with the novel “The Turnouts – Tribute to a Distant Star.”
Commander Upendra Babu is the son of Late K. P. Rabindran of Kizheettil Pisharam, the elder son of the renowned writer Late Cherukad, and Cherukara Pisharath Vilasini. He is married to Sathya, and they have a daughter, Shreya Upendra.
