K.P. Balakrishnan, a distinguished officer of the Indian Foreign Service, was born in 1940 to Aattor Nedumbrakkal Pisharath Late Madhavi Pisharassiar and Late Aryavaidyan N.P. Krishna Pisharody.
After completing his M.Sc. from Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, he began his career as a Professor in various colleges across Kerala. In 1963, he was selected for the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and went on to serve in various Indian consulates around the world.
His notable diplomatic assignments include:
- Ambassador of India to Yemen (1986–1989)
- Ambassador to Ethiopia, Djibouti, and the Vatican
Following his retirement from the Foreign Service in 2000, he continued his diplomatic engagement as the Commonwealth Advisor to the Foreign Office of Guyana during 2001–2002.
Since 2002, he has been residing in Thrissur.
He is married to Padinjare Thonnangamath Pisharath Sathi.
