Gautam Pisharody – Casting Director & Filmmaker
Gautam Pisharody is a versatile film professional working primarily in Hindi and Malayalam cinema. Based in Cochin and currently residing in Thiruvananthapuram, he is known for his work as a casting director, assistant/associate director, video filmmaker, and creative producer.
Educational Background
Gautam completed his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya in 2004. He graduated with a Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) in 2008. Pursuing his passion for visual storytelling, he went on to do his post-graduation in Audiovisual Production from the Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication, completing it in 2012.
Early Creative Endeavours
While still in college, Gautam began experimenting with filmmaking:
- In October 2010, he volunteered at SOS Children’s Village, Thrissur, where he created his first short promotional film, capturing the lives of the children.
- In January 2011, he directed a documentary on the condition of rivers in Pune, exploring the potential of river transport.
- In the following months, he took on multiple roles—actor, cameraman, and editor—in various short films such as Solidarity, Invisible Crime, Amor Brutal, and Naan Varuven (his debut as an assistant director).
- In March 2012, he wrote, directed, and edited the short film Intoxication.
Professional Experience
Before moving full-time into cinema, Gautam worked for a year as a Junior Associate Copyeditor at Crimson Interactive Pvt. Ltd.
He gained valuable production experience during:
- IPL Season 4 (2011) and IPL Season 5 (2012) as a Production Assistant on the show Extra Innings T20 for Sony Entertainment Television.
- Worked as Assistant Director on a series of five ad films for Decathlon, directed by Vishnu Shyam Prasad and produced by Nirvana Films.
- Assisted Nirvana Films again for a campaign of two ad films for the brand Maiyya.
He is currently involved in the feature film “Artist”, produced by Sunitha Productions.
Work in Malayalam Cinema
Gautam has been associated as an Assistant/Associate Director with several notable Malayalam films:
- Artist (Dir. Shyamaprasad)
- Amen (Dir. Lijo Jose Pellissery)
- Bangalore Days and Koode (Dir. Anjali Menon)
He has also appeared in supporting roles in films and TV serials, including a role in Lal Jose’s “Vikramadithyan”. In addition, he recently featured as a model in a jewellery advertisement.
