Dr. Jayakrishnan was born in 1968 in Kollengode, Palakkad district, to Krishnan Pisharody of Thichur Pisharam and Padmavati Amma.
He began learning mridangam at the age of nine under Vishwanatha Iyer of Kollengode. He continued his training under K. P. Krishnan Pothuval and Pollachi Govinda Raja. He is currently undergoing advanced training in mridangam under Sri Palakkad T. R. Raja Mani, a renowned mridangam maestro and son of the legendary Mridanga Chakravarti Palakkad Mani Iyer.
In 1991, Jayakrishnan joined All India Radio (Akashvani) as a Staff Artist. He now holds the position of Senior Grade Staff Artist at Akashvani.
He obtained his Ph.D. from Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University for Art and Culture under the guidance of Dr. A. Jalaja Varma.
Jayakrishnan has accompanied numerous concerts across India and has about 35 disciples, many of whom are recognized artists of Akashvani and Doordarshan.
