S. R. Sanjiv is an experienced Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram, with a rich background in the media industry. He possesses expertise in broadcasting, storytelling, visual communication, and communication research. His areas of interest include development communication, public finance, economy, politics, and cinema.
From 1997 to 2006, Sanjiv worked in the news division of Asianet, followed by a tenure at the Manorama News division until 2012. Since then, he has been shaping young media professionals through his academic role at Mar Ivanios College.
Sanjiv is distinguished for his coverage of developmental, political, economic, and social issues, as well as his proficiency in on-screen presentation. In 2005, he was awarded the prestigious British Chevening Scholarship, which enabled him to undergo specialised training in Broadcast Journalism at the Thomson Foundation, Cardiff, UK.
He has served as a member of the jury for selecting News and Current Affairs TV Awards for both the Government of Kerala and the Kerala Media Academy. Additionally, as a member of the Boards of Studies of various universities in Kerala and Mar Ivanios College, he has played a key role in restructuring the curriculum and content of Journalism and Media Studies programmes.
Sanjiv is the editor of the book COVID-19 Infodemic – Problem, Prospect and Retrospect: The Route Maps of Kerala. His academic contributions include numerous research papers and writings on topics such as journalism, reporting governance issues, development journalism, IT infrastructure in media, media theory, bridging gaps between research and practice, free expression in cyber media, and the role of development as an agenda in political communication.
He is the son of Dr. Bharathan of Amayoor Pisharath (Koppam) and Sumithra Bharathan of Cherukunnil Thekke Kizhakke Veedu. He is married to Roshni of Attur Pisharath, and the couple has a daughter, Jahnavi.
